What the Chronicle Is
The Town Chronicle is a scrollable record of everything notable that has happened in your settlement, from the day it was founded. It records births, deaths, disasters, first buildings, research unlocks, and population milestones — automatically, without any action required from you.
Open it with the J key. The Chronicle shows the most recent events at the top, with each entry timestamped by year and season. It persists across saves.
What Gets Recorded
| Event | Severity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Town founded | Milestone | The very first entry in every Chronicle |
| Citizen born or arrived | Info | Every new villager after founding day |
| Citizen died | Minor / Major / Milestone | Minor by default; Major if young (under 30); Milestone for the very first death ever |
| Building placed — first of its type | Milestone | Only the first tavern, first chapel, etc. — subsequent copies aren't logged |
| Building caught fire | Major | Milestone for the first fire ever |
| Research unlocked | Minor | Milestone for the first research ever |
| Population milestone | Milestone | Fires at 10, 25, 50, 100, and 200 citizens. Won't re-fire if population dips and recovers. |
Severity and Display
Each Chronicle entry has a severity tier that controls how it's displayed:
- Info — dim grey text. Routine happenings.
- Minor — parchment text. Worth noting.
- Major — amber text. Something significant happened.
- Milestone — gold text. A moment in the settlement's history.
What the Chronicle Is Not
The Chronicle is a read-only record — it has no effect on gameplay. It doesn't gate anything, doesn't affect immigration, and doesn't generate events. It's purely a window into your settlement's past.
Think of it as the town's memory, written from the outside. Elda and Tolman have their own personal memories; the Chronicle records what the whole settlement witnessed together.
